The country’s agricultural sectors must be promoted by reducing imports of palm oil, cotton and cotton products and clothing, Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said in his message sent to the ceremony to mark the 63th Anniversary of Pheasants Day which fell on March 2.

He said that efforts are being made to ensure that domestic agricultural sectors such as cotton, peanuts, sesame and sunflowers will meet the set targets as planned and achieve target yields. In addition, efforts are being made to develop cotton-based industries and MSMEs by upgrading cotton-based industries such as cotton mills, cotton and textile factories.

Domestic clothing demand is to be met with sufficient domestic cotton and that the people should pay attention to using domestic clothing. To achieve success in cultivation of grains and crops, 246 water reservoirs, 144 diversion dams, 72 lakes, 199 sluice gates and 219 water pumping facilities, currently 880 in total, are being operated, which is beneficial to over 3.1 million acres of cultivated crops, the Senior General said.
