Myanma Railways will start operating a new rail route between Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw on February 28 with new, modern, air-conditioned DEMU carriages purchased from Japan.
The DEMU train will have a total of six carriages, four first-class and two upper-class, and be capable of carrying 312 passengers. The train schedule and ticket prices will be announced later.

For a trial run on the route, the DEMU train left Nay Pyi Taw Railway Station at 8:00 am on February 21 carrying 130 passengers on board. It arrived at Yangon Central Railway Station at 1:50 pm, and the journey took 5 hours and 50 minutes long.
The new Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw route will make it easier for passengers to travel by train, an official of Myanma Railways said. New DEMU carriages have been used on the Yangon-Bago route since October 2, 2024 as well as on the Yangon Circular Railway sections since November last year.
