The opening ceremony of the night market in Tachilek, Shan State (Eastern) was held to commemorate the 78th Union Day, on February 12 at 6 p.m. at the night market entrance in Sansei (B) Ward. The night market entrance was opened cutting ribbons by the relevant officials and ethnic cultural groups of Shan, Akha, Lahu, and Pa-O performed traditional dances.

By opening the night market, people will be able to buy foodstuff in a regulated manner, said a local resident. The aim of opening Tachilek night market is to maintain the characteristics of a border town by keeping it clean and beautiful, to prevent traffic congestion in the city, to support tourism and allowing street vendors to sell in an orderly manner.
