A traditional boat race will be held on February 8 and 9 at Nam Kat Creek in Inle region with the aim of promoting tourism development in the region, attracting travellers with new destinations, preserving leg-rowing boat tradition and enabling the travellers to see the boat-race.

A total of 12 teams — four men’s 46-oar teams, four women’s 26-oar teams and four students’ 26-oar teams — will compete in the traditional leg-rowing boat race, according to a meeting held at the Nyaung Shwe Township General Administration Department Office on February 3.

In the Inle region, the traditional boat race is held annually along with the PhaungdawU Pagoda Festival, but due to flooding caused by Typhoon Yagi, the pagoda festival and traditional boat race could not be held this year.
