Suggestions will be submitted to the Ministry of Labor over the current suspension of the issuance of Overseas Workers Identity Card (OWIC) to men aged 18 to 35 who will be working abroad with a PJ passport, an official of Myanmar Overseas Employment Agencies Federation said.

The issuance of OWIC cards to the men who will be working abroad has been suspended since January 30. The sudden suspension of OWIC card issuance has caused difficulties for men who have recently received job invitations to go abroad and are in the process of signing contracts with employment agencies, an official of an overseas employment agency said.

It is learnt that men who have already received OWIC cards were allowed to work abroad and that suggestions would be submitted to the Ministry of Labor regarding the current suspension of the issuance of OWIC cards. It is necessary for all men between the ages of 18 and 35 who wish to work abroad with a PJ passport to check their names on the people’s military service list. Section 51 of the By-law of the People’s Military Service Law stipulates that a person who has received a summon letter for the military service is not allowed to travel abroad without the permission of the Central Body for Summoning People’s Military Service.
