Action was taken against a publisher and a printer of three books describing obscene material in accordance with the law according to the announcement released by the Ministry of Information of the Union of Myanmar.
It was found that the books described obscene material by violating the provisions of Section 8, Subsection (c) of the Printing and Publishing Law and distributed the content that could mislead thinking, vision and understanding of young people and that is not accepted by Myanmar society, the announcement said.
The books violated the law are: “Thakhin Kyinlyin Pandawmu”; “Oh.. Eiachitmyaye Bagyaunt Hsonepho Khetyadei”; and “ Yinkhwin Hnyaye Chitlunpoei”. Therefore, measures are being taken to have their business licenses revoked and declared illegal publications in January 2025 and the printer and the publisher prosecuted in accordance with the law, according to the announcement.
Therefore, it has been announced that printers and publishers must respect and comply with the Printing and Publishing Law and that any printing or publishing that violates the provisions of the law will be prosecuted and taken action in accordance with the law. In addition, on January 9, the Ministry of Information announced that it is taking legal action against printers and publishers in connection with 7 books containing obscene material.
