From April to December, in nine months of current financial year, Myanmar has exported about 150,000 tonns of rubber, according to Myanmar Rubber Planters and Producers Association.
75 percent of domestically produced rubber was exported to China as well as Indonesia, Singapore, Japan and India. It is necessary to increase production and handle labour shortage to raise rubber production two fold, U Khaing Myint, Secretary of Myanmar Rubber Planters and Producers Association told One News.
Rubber season in this year, rubber plants were infected with insects and falling leaves and plant growth stimulant were used for plant health, said rubber plantation owners.
World current rubber price is US$ 1700 per kilo and domestic price is around Ks.3000 per pound depending on the variety.
