Chinese garment investment in Myanmar is more than 60 percent of domestic garment industry, said Daw Khine Khine Nwe, general secretary of Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association. After China, Korea and Japan are second largest investors as well as western countries and countries in ASEAN region invest in the industry, she said.
New orders from Chinese popular brand have been accepted under CMP system in this year. Currently, Ministry of Planning and Finance has granted tax exemption for the imported raw materials and packing materials under CMP system. CMP system means cutting and making imported raw materials for production and packing them to export being paid by the job done.
In importing raw materials, affordable and available in large amount of raw materials are import from China and zippers are mostly imported from Japan. There are 500 garment factories in Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association as its members.
